Hi guys, I am actually facing a problem which I have no idea how to fix.
So basically when I start up youwave everything is forced closed including dropbox
I want to install a fresh copy(hopes that help) but I want to backup my whatsapp chat log.
Is there any suggestion as to how i do that?
I cant even get on the marketplace/browser or any other programs EXCEPT whatsapp
I guess I should feel lucky?
Anyone facing the same problem?
Also I want to ask if I install a fresh copy of youwave, would my whatsapp log still be there?

Thank you in advance for helping me out

just a heads up but you might want to hold off running WhatsApp for the time being as a number of people are having their phone numbers banned by WhatsApp for running it on youwave. I was able to use it for about 4 days before mine got banned. If that happens to you then your conversation history will be rather irrelevant  Grin

You can go to Whatsapp app, menu -> settings -> chat preferences-> Backup chat history.

If you can run an online file hosting app, such as dropbox or Box, you can move your chat history file online.

If you cannot, save a copy of the file <user id>/.Virtualbox/harddisks/youwave_vm01.vdi. All the data is in that file. You can use a program Winmount to extract files from the VDI file.

Thank you for your reply,
I back up my chat history, but dropbox is forceclose so I cant use it.
Is there any guide as to how to use Box or Winmount?
Thank you

The above should work fine, but in doubt you can also try this, which I actually did a couple of days ago because of the issue described in: http://youwave.com/forum/index.php?topic=2374.0 (After reinstall it's back down to 230mb):

1.- Download "root explorer" and install it: http://www.mediafire.com/?4aozgts4lp0rzog
2.- Follow the instructions here: http://www.youwave.com/android_id.html
3.- Use root explorer and go to the folder "/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/". In there you will find two files "msgstore.db" and "wa.db". Upload those two files to your Dropbox account.

Even though you could extract those two files with Winmount, or any other program that can open/mount .VDI files, I've found that sometimes that would corrupt the Databases, especially if you try to make a restore of the encrypted files found in /sdcard/Whatsapp/Databases.

4.- After reinstalling youwave or restoring the "golden" .VDI file, restore your Youwave ID with the instructions of step 2.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that in "/data/" there is a file named "youwave_id". And since I wasn't sure if WhatsApp picks up the device ID from this file or the "Id" file in "/sdcard/", I copied the number that I got from step 2, and pasted it into this file, making both files have the same number.

5.- Install Whatsapp, but don't add your number, just make sure you started the installation. (Don't input your phone number yet).
6.- Copy the files you uploaded to dropbox back to the folder where you got them from, if the folder "Databases" doesn't exist yet in "/data/data/com.whatsapp/", just create it.

If your interested in saving media files you would also need to backup the files located in "/sdcard/WhatsApp/Media".

7.- (optional) If you created a backup of the "Media" folder, create a folder in "/sdcard/WhatsApp/Media" and add all the folders/files back to their original location.
8.- Carry on with the Whatsapp installation.

If you did everything right Whatsapp won't verify your number again (so you most likely won't risk getting banned like it has happened to some users) because Whatsapp recognizes that you are on the exact same device, and when reinstalling Whatsapp you'll get all your messages back.

Like I said, I've tried this several times with the encrypted backup files created by Whatsapp, and 8/10 times the backup files would get corrupted. Safest way was like I described above, and all your messages will get saved/restored.

Another thing I found useful, I used this program http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24569917 to create an HTML backup of my chatlog. This program also had problems with the encrypted Whatsapp databases, and with the non-encrypted database when copied to my computer from a mounted/opened externally .VDI file. I hope others find this information useful.

Well, if your .VDI file is less than 300 mb, than you can download the trial version of PowerIso and open the VDI file without Youwave being open, or copy the .VDI file to another folder (as a backup) and try to open that one with Power Iso. Supposedly it works with WinMount too, but I don't have WinMount so I wouldn't know.

Now, what I would do is:

Option 1 (if you can use PowerIso or WinMount):

1.- Open Youwave; Then Whatsapp => Menu => Settings => Chat Preferences => Chat History Backup (Make a backup)
Whatsapp will create some encrypted databases in /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases named "msgstore-<date>.db.crypt"

2.- Backup your Youwave ID.

3.- Close Youwave, open/mount the .VDI file with PowerIso or WinMount => copy ALL the WhatsApp encrypted Databases to your computer.
You might want to optionally copy the two files I mentioned in my previous post.

4.- Reinstall Youwave, or restore the original VDI file
5.- Restore your Youwave ID.
6.- Initiate the WhatsApp installation (but to not enter your phone number yet)
7.- If necessary, create the folders needed by WhatsApp (if they aren't created yet by the installer), and copy your backed up Encrypted Databases.
If you need to create the "WhatsApp" main folder, make sure it's named properly. I once named it "Whatsapp" instead of "WhatsApp", and the backup didn't work. Don't know if that was related, but it doesn't hurt to get things right the first time. Wink

8.- Proceed with the installation of WhatsApp; if it doesn't restore your chat history, (progress bar of chat restore doesn't reach 100%), then it's most likely that the DB are malformed.

9.- (Optional) As a last resort, you could remove WhatsApp (AGAIN) and then also put the non-encrypted database files "msgstore.db" and "wa.db" in "/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/" and try reinstalling WhatsApp. If the "databases" folder doesn't exist, just create it.

Option 2:

I'm not sure if this would work, and I haven't tried it, but if you make a backup of your VDI file like I suggested at first, then there's not harm done in trying, I guess.

1.- In Youwave go to Home => Menu => Manage Apps => Dropbox => Clear Data AND Uninstall
You might want to optionally restart Youwave.

2.- Open Rootexplorer; Remove all traces of Dropbox. I think I found most of the files, which are:

/data/system/Dropbox
/data/local/tmp/dropbox.apk
/data/app/com.dropbox.android-2.apk
/data/data/com.dropbox.android

These are the only references to dropbox I have in my .VDI file. If you find anymore, delete them.

3.- Restart Youwave; then Reinstall Dropbox.

And hopefully it works!! Like I said, I didn't try this, but I'd imagine that if a program is closing down, it probably has damaged files/data (probably from shutting down/rebooting your computer without properly shutting down Youwave. I remember that with earlier versions of Youwave, the .VDI file and/or certain Apps would sometimes get corrupted if you didn't shut down Youwave and then give the computer a few minutes before shutting it down or rebooting. I don't know if this still happens with the new versions!

If none of these two options work, then we'll have to think of something else.

Yes, PowerIso and Winmount are windows programs, not Youwave apps. I say ".vdi" file because that is the extension of the file. Think of the .vdi file as a virtual hard drive, which stores all the information on Youwave. Like admin said, this file is located in C:/<user id>/.Virtualbox/harddisks/youwave_vm01.vdi. If you have Windows 7 or Vista, that would translate to "C:/Users/<Your username on your computer>/.Virtualbox/harddisks/youwave_vm01.vdi". In Windows XP I guess instead of going into "User" you'd go to "Documents and Settings"

What you need to do with PowerIso, is on the menu bar go to File => Open, and then search in the previously mentioned folder and open the "youwave_vm01.vdi" file. (Note: You will notice that there is another file in there that says "golden". That is a blank harddisk that you can use to replace the old one without having to reinstall Youwave.)

When you open the .vdi it will ask if you want to open the Linux partition or the FAT32 partition. Select FAT32. You will see that this is somewhat similar to what you'd be able to see from "Root explorer" on Youwave. From there, navigate to your "WhatsApp\Databases" folder and select all the files that you have in there; there should be several files that have the date, and one file that is just named "msgstore.db.crypt". Once you select them all, you can either drag them to a folder in Windows, or you can press the button on the top that says "Extract" and from there select where you want to save them.

In my experience, I had several message backup files with different dates, and I figured I could restore the chat history from just the "msgstore.db.crypt" file; in trial and error I figured out that I needed ALL the message backup files, including the ones with older dates, especially since when copying the files to my computer with PowerIso, I think some files tend to get corrupted in little ways. That's why I think you should make  a backup of your .vdi file (copy it to another location, just in case).

Now just follow the instructions in the previous posts. Another reminder: double check you wrote down your Youwave ID properly, if you didn't write it down right, when reinstalling WhatsApp you'll have to do the whole confirmation process again, which can be a drag sometimes Cheesy; so make sure you wrote it down exactly how it is. And make sure you go through every step in the previous post. If you need more help, just post your question.
