A tip on how to search for an APK file

Usually people search for an APK file using the terms related to that particular app. Here is one tip to help you quickly find an app.

To search for an apk file, knowing the filename is the key. To find out the filename, you can go to appbrain.com and get the description of the app. For example , for app DirecTV, type in “directv” in appbrain.com and get the link about this app – http://www.appbrain.com/app/directv/com.directv.dvrscheduler#. The filename is right there on the URL – com.directv.dvrscheduler. Now you have the keyword “dvrscheduler”. Add this keyword to your search terms and you will find the apk file in no time.

Email from Deployed Soldier

We received an email from a U.S. deployed soldier during the weekend.

“I am a deployed soldier currently in Afghanistan. Your program is one of the few ways I am able to keep in touch with my family at home.”

“Thank you very much for your great work with this program as an IT guy I enjoy this very much.”

Version 2.0.0 is released

Today we are announcing the availability of YouWave for Android 2.0.0, which supports Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It has many improvements, such as dynamic rotating and retractable control panel. YouWave version 2.0.0 will have a price with a trial period.

YouWave was founded on a vision that imagination is our only limitation. It has been a long way since we released our first free version last year. Our latest free version 1.5.1 has been widely received. We are glad that the product is loved by many android enthusiasts, gamers, and developers. To continue serving this vibrant community and to make YouWave a better product, we have determined that a reasonable pricing structure is needed to defray development costs and to enable us to develop more cutting edge features. In the long term, this will benefit our user community and our company.

We believe that our users and YouWave are together creating and experiencing something extraordinary. The best is always ahead of us. Thank you for your support.

What I have learned from releasing YouWave

1. Assumptions made by developers about user behavior are often wrong. We should be always on a path of validating and correcting.

2. In a new market, gaining potential users’ interests is much more important than acquiring so called “market share”.

3. It is a long journey. Good software takes ten years.

What are we up to these days?

Dear users,

We have been heads down, working like hell these days. Since our product launch last August, we have received many suggestions about our product. Here, I personally thank all your inputs. Along the way, we faced many challenges. It is your feedback and even criticisms that have helped us. YouWave is a complex product and it was delivered by a small and efficient team. Recently, we crossed a milestone. The number of downloads has exceeded 100,000. As we have spent zero dollars on promoting our product, it is a great achievement. We could not have achieved this without the help of you and Android communities.

Our new release 2.0.0 is coming up. It will have more features, improved user interface and product stability. We will have a new look of website as well.  I look forward to serving you. Together we embrace the exciting world of Android on PC.

Sincerely,
Eugene

Just the beginning of a new trend

In the last post, I wrote about this new form of mobile app consumption that YouWave has created. We believe that this is a very early stage of a large trend. Here, I would like to show you how our users are currently using YouWave.

Most our current users are gamers who prefer the comfort of a large screen to play the games that they like. Our user feedback shows us some of popular games currently running under youwave platform:
Alchemy, a simple yet fun and extremely addictive puzzle game. You create hundreds of elements from four basic ones – earth, water, air and fire.
Game Dev Story Lite, a small, cute, strategy game about starting a game studio.
Wordfeud Free, an addictive free crossword style multiplayer word game
iMobster, a free multiplayer online mafia game with over 1.6 million players. Players fight other players live.

Another group of our users is Android app developers, who do not like the slow and cumbersome SDK emulator to test their apps. They prefer our easy to use and high performance platform.

As you can see, the possibilities of using YouWave for Android is limitless.

It’s just a beginning.

Why people would run Android apps on a PC

Some people questioned us why people would run Android apps on a pc. They pointed out that pc lacks GPS and motion sensors that make mobile app experience enriching so it is hard to get the full experience out of many apps if they are running on pc.

The benefits of running Android apps on pc are:
* A large screen that enhances app experience;
* No need to worry about exhausting phone’s battery;
* Multitasking;
* Easily taking screen-shots or record videos;
* Demo and presentation.

Mobile trend has attracted many developers who are creating large number of high quality apps for mobile devices. While many apps utilize phone sensors to provide a whole new mobile experience, most apps would have been run just right on a pc if they were written as desktop applications in the first place. And for some apps, the experience would be better if they are run on a pc with a larger screen. Playing a game on my HTC Desire, which has a larger screen than that of iPhone, tires my eyes after awhile. Some games exhaust the phone battery very quickly. YouWave is a tool which was created just for this purpose – bridging the gap between mobile and pc computing, enriching the app experience, and allowing people who do not even have a smart phone to enjoy what the mobile revolution has to offer.

By doing so, YouWave creates a new way of mobile app consumption.

Additionally, I would also make the following clear:
YouWave cannot and does not attempt to replace an Android phone. It is not our goal.
Some apps require smartphone hardware sensors to run properly. They may not run well in youwave.

Give us your feedback on how we can improve the product as I believe that our imagination is our only limitation.
